We will be visiting the English Martyrs Catholic Church at Goring.

The church has the only known reproduction of the Sistine Chapel ceiling - in the world!

Started in 1987 by Gary Bevans, a sign writer parishioner, after a pilgrimage to Rome. Following a discussion with Bishop Cormac, Gary's request to bring 'the  Sistine ceiling' here was accepted.

It is now completed at 2/3 scale of the original with the colours matching the newly cleaned ceiling in Rome.

It was a labour of love funded by parishioners with a book in a glass case recording the doners and to whom the panel was dedicated.

Numerous national and international TV companies have filmed the work and magazines such as 'Time' have written about it.

Donations to the church are welcome so we have included a donation in the cost of the trip, but of course you are welcome to add a donation yourself.

Before the church we will be calling in at a local garden center in Goring, for a comfort stop and where you can purchase a drink.

After the church, we will have a short ride to Worthing where we spend the afternoon. Once a fashionable resort for Georgian and Victorian holidaymakers, Worthing retains much of its period charm. Independent shops, galleries and quirky cafes are springing up alongside traditional pubs and tearooms

There is a grade II listed pier to walk along, plus a beachfront promenade. Worthing also has a museum and Art Gallery, situated just off the town centre, housing an impressive costume and textile collection, along with local history exhibits.
