Walking Together - Basingstoke Canal, April 2026

Our walk of 51⁄2 miles was enjoyed by ten members. We walked along part of the Basingstoke Canal and then over fields past the Tundry Pond and Dogsmerfield Park, a Grade I Georgian building. It dates back to the 13th century and is reputed to be where King Henry VII took Prince Arthur to meet his bride Katherine of Aragon. The sun shone the whole time and, because we hadn’t had rain for a week, a lot of the boggy areas were drying up. The bluebells were in flower as were many other woodland plants.
