Seven of us set off from the main car park at Fleet Pond on a very pleasant day with a temperature of 23C. Fleet Pond is the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire and we had lovely views of it from the path as we walked along. Stopping to look at the view we observed a heron high in a tree being mobbed by gulls. Veering away from the pond we crossed Gelvert Stream via a foot bridge and entered the woods. It was pleasant to walk through the shade of the oak trees and scots pine. Going in a loop we walked parallel to the stream and recrossed the foot bridge. Finding a bench we sat down to have a little break. (see photo) Coming back to the pond on the other side we went on an observation platform to admire the scenic lake and some of it’s wildlife. The stroll was about 3.5 miles long led by Lella Ranger.
